Human Anatomy & Physiology Honors

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This one-year honors level course is designed to introduce high school students to various aspects of anatomy and physiology as well as career opportunities. The students will be provided with experiences of anatomy and physiology concepts in detailed explanation. Activities and applications will provide the foundation for instruction in this course. The laboratory exercises will provide hands on approach to learning anatomy and physiology. Career opportunities will also be provided as an integral part of instruction.

GOALS
​

1. Students will be responsible for scientific nomenclature for all systems.

2. Each of the major systems of the human body will be studied in anatomical detail.

3. Identification of stucture and function of human anatomy and physiology will be studied and practiced.

4. Indentification of muscle origin and insertion will be studied.

5. Physiology of all major tissues and organs will be studied  and discussed in depth.

6. Medical careers relating to each area of study will be researched, including course requirements and certificaitons.

7. Guest speakers will be utilized when available to provide insight and direction in related fields of anatomy and physiology.

8. Diseases related to each human system will be discussed along with treatments and preventative steps.

9. Students will learn how to take and interpret blood pressure readings.

-Nervous, Somatic and Endocrine Systems

UNIT 4: PROCESSING AND TRANSPORTING

-Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Digestive, Lymphatic and Urinary Systems

UNIT 5: REPRODUCTION

-Reproductive Systems and Growth
